Grand Court of Ontario 2011

The 78th Annual Session of the Grand Court of Ontario was held May 26 – 28, 2011 at the Holiday Inn, Burlington.

There were a total of 99 members in attendance, including 56 delegates. H.L. Barbara Ullrich, Supreme Conductress,  representing  the Supreme Royal Matron, was most gracious in providing her guidance and assistance, ably assisted by S.K. J.D. Hammett, Supreme Associate Patron. The Unofficial Opening was well attended, the business of the Sessions speedily and efficiently conducted by H.L. Connie Snaith, Grand Royal Matron and S.K. James Court, Grand Royal Patron. The Friday evening Banquet , honoring H.L. Connie and S.K. James, was a big success, as was the Saturday luncheon, honoring the newly elected Grand Court Officers. A full slate of Grand Officers, elected and appointed, was installed on Saturday evening, and the ceremonies were performed extremely well.

Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.

Thomas Edison

Court, S.K. James Court and H.L. Donna Ozol Lyons. Wow – what a showing 21% of our total membership.

The “Melody of Love” Sessions were conducted very efficiently and our Florida / Kentucky hosts were most gracious and made everyone feel most welcome. A great time was had by all in attendance. A donation of $426,000. was made to the American Diabetes Society.  And best of all – there was no Jurisprudence to be addressed.

The highlight for Ontario was, of course, the Installation of Supreme Officers on Wednesday evening, when H.L. Lillian Worton, Heritage Court No.13, Order of the Amaranth, was installed as Supreme Royal Matron. The entire Ceremony was performed most impressively. The following elected Supreme Officers were installed:

Supreme Associate Matron –   H.L. Barbara Ullrich   Pa

Supreme  Commissioner of Appeal –

                                                     S.K. Joseph Talvy- Co

A complete list of the Elected and Appointed Supreme Officers can be found on the Supreme Website.

On the Thursday morning, following a very successful School of Instruction, held by H.L. Gert Bowen, Supreme Lecturer, at which the Informal Opening of Grand Court and Memorial Service were exemplified, a superb Leadership Seminar was held, conducted by S.K. JD Hammett and his team of facilitators. Over 200 were in attendance and enthusiastically embraced the various aspects of leadership demonstrated. We all went FISHing – ask anyone who was there to explain this.

There was lots of singing, dancing and hand clapping at the banquet on Thursday evening, honouring H.L. Lillian and S.K. JD. Well Over 400 were in attendance – a great kick off for the “Northern Lights” year. As they said – “It’s a new beat for 2012!”

It was a great Supreme Assembly – so Ontario better get ready to put their best foot forward next year, to make sure we come up to the mark!!!

THE TEN RULES FOR BEING HUMAN

by Cherie Carter-Scott

1.

You will receive a body. You may like it or hate it, but it's yours to keep for the entire period.

2.

You will learn lessons. You are enrolled in a full-time informal school called, "life."

3.

There are no mistakes, only lessons. Growth is a process of trial, error, and experimentation. The "failed" experiments are as much a part of the process as the experiments that ultimately "work."

4.

Lessons are repeated until they are learned. A lesson will be presented to you in various forms until you have learned it. When you have learned it, you can go on to the next lesson.

5.

Learning lessons does not end. There's no part of life that doesn't contain its lessons. If you're alive, that means there are still lessons to be learned.

6.

"There" is no better a place than "here." When your "there" has become a "here", you will simply obtain another "there" that will again look better than "here."

7.

Other people are merely mirrors of you. You cannot love or hate something about another person unless it reflects to you something you love or hate about yourself.

8.

What you make of your life is up to you. You have all the tools and resources you need. What you do with them is up to you. The choice is yours.

9.

Your answers lie within you. The answers to life's questions lie within you. All you need to do is look, listen, and trust.

10.

You will forget all this.

Prospective New Member

Congratulatons to  our Grand Royal Matron, H.L. Charlene Jack Candlish, who gave birth to a beautiful 6lb 6 oz baby girl on March 23rrd, 2011, who attended her first meeting at Grand Court in May and seemed to thoroughly enjoy herself.

MAY DAY!!

This call of distress in extreme circumstances, has nothing to do with the month of May, but comes from the French, “M’aidez” , meaning “help me.”

Most of us are reluctant to ask for help, but often wait until our difficulties become  “May Day” situations.

Does your Court need help with fund raising or other problems– ask for it!

Do you need help with ritual work or personal challenges– ask for it!

You may not get what you ask for – but you certainly will never get what you don’t ask for.

Calvin & Hobbes quote:

Sometimes I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us.”

Grand Court Ball.

What a great evening we had on March 26th

at the Holiday Inn, Burlington. Our Grand Court Ball was very well attended. The entertainment, before and after dinner, was superb; The Fourwarned provided musical memories from the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s. The dinner was terrific and the Conductresses raised over $600. on the baskets draw.  Everyone had a fantastic time. Thanks, Queen Anne Court for a great time.
